Gambling with God

Dancing with the devil

The balance is right

On a spirit level

Heaven and hell

Burst their seeds in my heart

Entwined I have life

Never the twain shall part

The soil of being

Holds every flower

Clouds don’t pick and choose

Upon whom to shower

The sun shines

Get too close and you’ll burn

We sit still ...

And yet the earth turns

I stretch my wings

Look to the sky

What miracle brings

The urge to fly

A hand lifts a gun

Jaws tear through a vein

Don’t we all run?

To escape the pain

Death feeds life

And life feeds death

Each gasp of air

May be the last breath

I dance with the devil

I gamble with god

Fly with the angels

And roll in the mud

Howl with the wolves

And reach for the moon

Freeze in a blizzard

Drown in monsoon

Burn with forest

Coo with the dove

Dive into oceans

Fall into love

Ache with the agonies

Of a passing season

Born anew

For no reason

What I seek and what I resist

Are joined together

And they vanish forever

When I choose,

         To sit

             In their midst
